It was edited by the Meiji-era artist Gessai Fukui. The designs were adapted and redrawn as reduced-scale woodblock prints after original masterworks by a variety of earlier artists. In this case, the original design is from Nagasawa Rosetsu and depicts a wisteria branch with fourteen sparrows perched on it. Three of the sparrows are caught in mid-flight, their wings spread wide. This print has a fold in the middle.
