Description: This print belongs to the set “Picture Book by Various Famous Painters" published by Aoki Suzando. It was edited by the Meiji-era artist Gessai Fukui. The designs were adapted and redrawn as reduce-scale woodblock prints after the original masterworks (paintings) by a variety of earlier artists. 

The original painting was by Maruyama Okyo and depicts a hawk perched on a tree branch looking down. An interesting feature is the use of expressive brushstrokes, evident in every element, which reveals the painting techniques of the original masterwork.

This print has a fold in the middle. It is toned and has a few stains but retains nice color for its age.
