Item from the Mokuhankan Flea MarketNarukamiSize: 40.0cm by 27.7cm (15.75 in by 10.91 in) | Enlargement | Shipping Code: [L] ? Designer: Torii Tadakiyo Era: Meiji | Currency: $ / £ / € Price: Description: This print is the third in the Kabuki Jûhachiban (歌舞伎十八番, "The Eighteen Great Kabuki Plays") series of prints by the artist Kiyotada (also known as Tadakiyo). It depicts actor Ichikawa Danjûrô IX as Narukami Shônin in the play Narukami, with an actor from the past as Taema-hime. Narukami was originally staged in 1684 at the Nakamura Theatre and starred Ichikawa Danjûrô I (who was also the playwright for this piece). For more information on the play, see this description. The serene expression of Taema-hime is contrasted with the fierce expression of Narukami, who has been tricked by her and has turned into a thunder god in his rage. As with all of the prints in this series, the detailed karazuri blind-embossing in the background is a highlight. Please visit our Collection page where you can see our own preserved copy of this entire series at high-resolution. This print has slight creases, a few stains, and a few wormholes. Also, there is a pinhole at the top right corner. Browse thumbnail pages of various selections from the catalogue ...
