Item from the Mokuhankan Flea MarketCormorant Fishing at Nagara RiverSize: 29.0cm by 41.5cm (11.42 in by 16.34 in) | Enlargement | Shipping Code: [L] ? Designer: Hiyoshi Mamoru Era: Early Showa | Currency: $ / £ / € Price: Description: A very charming and interesting design depicting a traditional fishing technique where men use trained cormorant birds to catch fish in the Nagara River, Gifu Prefecture. Several boats float in the middle of the river, where fishermen prepare for the evening's work. On the middle boat, a row of docile cormorants perch on the gunwale, patiently awaiting the signal to begin the catch. Each fishing boat features a fire lantern, and the smoke curls leftward with the wind's flow, creating an almost repetitive yet colorful pattern that stands out against the dark background. The vibrant colors, strong contrast, and well-composed scene make this print truly unique. Published by Kyoto Hanga-In in 1953. This print has slight creases, especially along the top margin.
