Item from the Mokuhankan Flea MarketCatching Fireflies (set of 3)Size: 29.5cm by 19.5cm (11.61 in by 7.68 in) | Enlargement | Shipping Code: [L] ? Designer: Kitagawa Utamaro Era: Post-war | Currency: $ / £ / € Price: ¥ 15,000$ 119.00£ 93.75€ 110.00 Description: These prints date from the 1970s/80s, and were made by the Kajikawa workshop, which was hired to produce a folio containing 20 triptychs (60 prints all). They were made at a reduced size (29.5 x 19.5cm) from the original Edo-era prints, which were in the large o-ban format. This charming triptych shows a group of women catching fireflies on an autumn evening. All dressed in summer kimono, they all are trying to attract them with their fans. Some children are also enjoying the chasing adventure and are holding some insect cages. This design certainly shows Utamaro’s skill in attention to fine details, interesting human gestures, and a very charming palette where soft colors like pale greens, blues, magentas, and purples dominate. Please note that the prints are lightly glued to a mat paper with three windows, and will be shipped folded. There are a few slight foxing spots on these prints. Also, the backside of the paper mat has foxing. Browse thumbnail pages of various selections from the catalogue ...
