Item from the Mokuhankan Flea MarketSeven Men Blind Drunk (set of 3)![]() Size: 29.5cm by 19.5cm (11.61 in by 7.68 in) | Enlargement | Shipping Code: [L] ? Designer: Kitagawa Utamaro Era: Post-war | Currency: $ / £ / € Price: ![]() Description: These prints date from the 1970s/80s, and were made by the Kajikawa workshop, which was hired to produce a folio containing 20 triptychs (60 prints all). They were made at a reduced size (29.5 x 19.5cm) from the original Edo-era prints, which were in the large o-ban format. This interesting triptych offers a humorous take on the classic tale of the Seven Sages of the Bamboo Grove. Here, we see a group of eight men and two geishas enjoying a lively drinking party. In the middle sheet, two men dance exuberantly while a third bangs out a rhythm on an overturned sake bottle. The left sheet shows two more men, one playfully embracing a woman, as they watch the dance with amusement. In the right sheet, a man attempts to play music on a broom, while a geisha behind him laughs and leans against a straw-wrapped sake cask. This amusing design showcases Utamaro's skill in depicting figures in motion and exaggerating gestures to create a very expressive and dynamic scene. Please note that the prints are lightly glued to a mat paper with three windows, and will be shipped folded. ![]() Browse thumbnail pages of various selections from the catalogue ...
