Item from the Mokuhankan Flea MarketHeron Flying above Raging WavesSize: 27.0cm by 21.0cm (10.63 in by 8.27 in) | Enlargement | Shipping Code: [L] ? Designer: Ogata Korin Era: Meiji | Currency: $ / £ / € Price: Description: This print was done by Fukui Gessai, a print artist who did reproductions of historical paintings. This particular print belongs to a picture album of 12 issued by Aoki Suzando in the 1890s after Ogata Korin’s original designs who is credited with reviving and consolidating the Rinpa school of Japanese painting. A white heron is flying above some raging waves. Despite the lack of a figurative background, this design doesn’t need any more elements to illustrate a marine landscape and transmit the strength and dynamism of the water and the flying bird. The silver painting on the waves adds light and contrast to the print. This print is worn, toned, and has slight creases but remains nice colors for its age.
