Item from the Mokuhankan Flea MarketWhite Chicken under Plum TreeSize: 27.0cm by 21.0cm (10.63 in by 8.27 in) | Enlargement | Shipping Code: [L] ? Designer: Ogata Korin Era: Meiji | Currency: $ / £ / € Price: Description: This print was done by Fukui Gessai, a print artist who did reproductions of historical paintings. This particular print belongs to a picture album of 12 issued by Aoki Suzando in 1896 after Ogata Korin’s original designs who is credited with reviving and consolidating the Rinpa school of Japanese painting. The protagonist of this charming print is this white chicken who is elegantly standing under a plum blossom branch. Some camellia flowers are visible on the right part. Even though it must be the beginning of Spring there are still some elements that remind a winter mood, a snowy white chicken under some plum blossoms that look like snowflakes …! The delicacy and softness of the lines in the design are remarkable. This print is worn, toned, and has slight creases but remains nice colors for its age. Also, there are a few small wormholes at the top and left edges. Browse thumbnail pages of various selections from the catalogue ...
