Item from the Mokuhankan Flea MarketPoppies in the WindSize: 22.0cm by 30.0cm (8.66 in by 11.81 in) | Enlargement | Shipping Code: [L] ? Designer: Katsushika Hokusai Era: Early Showa | Currency: $ / £ / € Price: Description: This print is from the large set of 49 Hokusai designs produced by Takamizawa Company probably in the mid-1950s. Many poppies sway in the wind. Hokusai depicted poppy flowers in various stages - from just beginning to bloom, in full bloom and in the process of bearing fruit. The petals and leaves are depicted realistically, including the flower veins, the shape of leaves, and both front and back sides. They look to be actually gently moving with the breeze. Some people have pointed out the similarity in composition between this image and his famous work ‘Great Wave’; the curved stems on the left and the undulating wave in the ‘Great Wave’ have a similar shape. There are a few foxing spots in the lower right area. Browse thumbnail pages of various selections from the catalogue ...
