It depicts three fishermen working on their boat on Lake Suwa, with Mt. Fuji in the distance. The boat in the foreground is a dugout canoe made from a large cedar tree, known in Japan as a ‘Maruki bune’. The rough texture of the wood, and the grain, is depicted realistically. Three fishermen are on the boat; one stands at the bow, pulling a fishing line, while the other two are rowing. The waves are so well depicted that, while gazing at them, I even felt the sway.
