Item from the Mokuhankan Flea Market12 Seasonal Fan Prints: Year EndSize: 25.0cm by 32.5cm (9.84 in by 12.80 in) | Enlargement | Shipping Code: [L] ? Designer: Utagawa Toyokuni Era: Late Showa | Currency: $ / £ / € Price: Description: This pair of prints are from the "12 Months of Modern Beauties" series, consisting of 12 pairs. It was originally produced in 1822 by the publisher Ibasen as a multicolor printed fan print. The items here are reproductions published by Yuyudo in 1975. Fan prints are often on one side, but this series is unique - the design of the front and back sides of the fan are fused together, and part of the figures are overlapped on both sides to create the illusion of three-dimensionality when you spin the fan around and around. Each pair depicts a month of the modern lifestyle of a woman and this pair depicts the 12th month of the lunar calendar, a woman holding a blue umbrella to protect herself from the snow falling. The reverse side of the fan print shows quite an interesting design with a white daruma facing the spectator with an angry expression and looking almost like a snowman. There are a few small chiri (mulberry bark scraps) on these prints.
