Designer: Torii Kiyonaga Era: Post-war | Currency: $ / £ / € Price: Description: This print belongs to The Fourth Month diptych from the series “Twelve Months in the Southern Pleasure District (Minami juni ko)”. The original prints can be seen on the MET website. The two prints depict a scene of pleasure where a man, which appears on the left print of the diptych (not present here), is enjoying the company of six women. They are all gathered inside a tatami room, having some tea and some food, wearing flower-patterned kimonos to remind the spring season they are in, which comes in April, the fourth month of the year. This print is the right one of the diptych, it shows two stylized standing women who are enjoying the reunion and two sitting down, one of them is elegantly playing a shamisen. A shoji door behind is open and allows the spectator to admire the big marine landscape in the background which gives an interesting contrast between the outside and the inside. This particular print is a post-war reproduction by the Adachi Company. Browse thumbnail pages of various selections from the catalogue ...
