Item from the Mokuhankan Flea MarketChofu Jewel River![]() Size: 40.0cm by 26.5cm (15.75 in by 10.43 in) | Enlargement | Shipping Code: [L] ? Designer: Utagawa Kunisada Era: Mid Showa | Currency: $ / £ / € Price: ![]() Description: This print is from Kunisada's series 当世六玉顔, Six Modern Jewel-like Faces. The title 六玉顔 (Mu Tamagao) is a parody on the renowned six rivers in Japan, 六玉川 (Mu Tamagawa). Ukiyo-e researchers feel that the person depicted here on a pleasure boat is probably a male prostitute in a woman's costume. The loose summer kimono, the nibbling on edamame snack, and the feeling of ennui, bring a very decadent mood to the design. This particular print is a post-war reproduction by Yamada Shoin. ![]() ![]() Browse thumbnail pages of various selections from the catalogue ...
