Item from the Mokuhankan Flea MarketDecorated PaperSize: 40.0cm by 26.0cm (15.75 in by 10.24 in) | Enlargement | Shipping Code: [L] ? Designer: Keisai Eisen Era: Post-war | Currency: $ / £ / € Price: Description: Eisen is most renowned for his bijin-ga ("illustrations of beautiful women") portraying women in a more realistic light than those depicted by earlier artists, replacing otherworldly grace and elegance with a less studied sensuality. He produced many portraits and full-length studies of fashions of the time. This print is from the Tousei Koubutsu Hakkei (當世好物八契, "Eight Favorite Things in the Modern World") series. The eight "things" include a doll, a book, and a shamisen, but the "thing" for this particular print is chiyogami (千代紙, decorated paper), shown in the different types of paper at the top of the print. A reproduction published by Ishu Kanko-kai and produced by Kajikawa Kobo probably in the late 1980s or early 1990s. Browse thumbnail pages of various selections from the catalogue ...
