Description: This is an Eisen design from his series Ukiyo fûzoku bijo kurabe (Customs of the Floating World: A Contest of Beautiful Women).

We are of course in the Yoshiwara, with an entertainer preparing her shamisen for performance.

The print has a particularly beautiful blend of colour tones. When one of our printers here saw this one, she said simply 「日本の色ですね...」 "Very Japanese in its colouring ..."

A reproduction published by Ishu Kanko-kai and produced by Kajikawa Kobo probably in the late 1980s or early 1990s.
