Item from the Mokuhankan Flea MarketBeauty in the RainSize: 30.5cm by 20.0cm (12.01 in by 7.87 in) | Enlargement | Shipping Code: [L] ? Designer: Yamaguchi Sojun Era: Taisho | Currency: $ / £ / € Price: Description: This print is from the series, 日本木版画粋 (Masterpieces of Japanese Woodblock Prints), a collection of reproductions of various themes and designs published around 1924. The print quality is excellent (for most of the prints) and there are almost no traces of baren on the back, so we assume that it was at least partially machine printed. Very charming picture of a beauty in movement, she is walking hastily with her head down to escape from the upcoming rain announced by the heavy clouds behind. She is holding an umbrella with one hand and closing her kimono that opens with the wind with the other. The red color of her inner kimono, obi, and sandals contrast very nicely with the gray-blue of the umbrella and principal dress. The designer succeeded in showing the presence of a strong wind through the depiction of her clothes in movement and how they are flowing towards the right part.
