Item from the Mokuhankan Flea MarketThe Scene in a FieldSize: 19.5cm by 30.5cm (7.68 in by 12.01 in) | Enlargement | Shipping Code: [L] ? Designer: Hijikawa Waoh Era: Taisho | Currency: $ / £ / € Price: Description: This print is from the series, 日本木版画粋 (Masterpieces of Japanese Woodblock Prints), a collection of reproductions of various themes and designs published around 1924. The print quality is excellent (for most of the prints) and there are almost no traces of baren on the back, so we assume that it was at least partially machine printed. This picture represents a scene in the middle of a field, where two men are holding swords and seem to be starting a battle. A woman with her baby behind is witnessing the scene. The figures are placed against a bold colorless background without any perspective but the composition is very vivid due to their gestures and expressions as well as the thorough details and colors of their clothes.
