Item from the Mokuhankan Flea MarketDream of the Rush GathererSize: 19.2cm by 30.0cm (7.56 in by 11.81 in) | Enlargement | Shipping Code: [L] ? Designer: Katsushika Hokusai Era: Taisho | Currency: $ / £ / € Price: Description: This print is from the series, 日本木版画粋 (Masterpieces of Japanese Woodblock Prints), a collection of reproductions of various themes and designs published around 1924. The print quality is excellent (for most of the prints) and there are almost no traces of baren on the back, so we assume that it was at least partially machine printed. It seems that a young woman was gathering rush (a waterside plant) and suddenly fell asleep. Hokusai illustrates the dream she is probably having at that moment: a group of horses with their riders, women, and probably gatherers too as they are carrying something on their backs; depicted with a cloud shape and placed on the center of the composition.
