Item from the Mokuhankan Flea MarketKajikazawa from '36 Views of Mt. Fuji'Size: 26.5cm by 39.0cm (10.43 in by 15.35 in) | Enlargement | Shipping Code: [L] ? Designer: Katsushika Hokusai Era: Post-war | Currency: $ / £ / € Price: Description: 36 Views of Mt. Fuji is an extremely well-known series. What started as 36 works later grew to include a total of 46 images, containing some of the most recognizable works Hokusai ever designed. It was published c. 1830–1832. This is one of the best-sellers of the series. What makes it unique is Hokusai’s skill in capturing the water movements like the waves here depicted in the foreground of the Fuji River. They foam and gurgle with vigor that we can almost hear them splashing. A fisherman is standing on the cliff-top handling four ropes of a fish net accompanied by a child. In the background, a more calm feeling reigns due to the stillness of the water. Mount Fuji rises above the mist far behind but fills the horizon space by himself. In this version of this design, the indigo dominates the color palette, it stands out beautifully. This particular print is a post-war reproduction by the Takamizawa Company. There are a few small foxing spots on this print. Also, there is a slight mat burn in the bottom left area. Browse thumbnail pages of various selections from the catalogue ...
