Item from the Mokuhankan Flea MarketTago Bay from '36 Views of Mt. Fuji'Size: 26.0cm by 39.0cm (10.24 in by 15.35 in) | Enlargement | Shipping Code: [L] ? Designer: Katsushika Hokusai Era: Post-war | Currency: $ / £ / € Price: Description: 36 Views of Mt. Fuji is an extremely well-known series. What started as 36 works later grew to include a total of 46 images, containing some of the most recognizable works Hokusai ever designed. It was published c. 1830–1832. A lot of elements make this print interesting, one of them is Hokusai’s skill in capturing movements of water like the waves produced by the navigation of the fishing boats in the foreground. The view of Mount Fuji from the shores of Tago-no-ura Bay was reputed to be the best along the entire Tokaido Highway. We can see that behind the layer of haze, very typical of Hokusai, and almost omnipresent in each of his designs, rises up the majestic Mount Fuji capped on its peak with white snow. This print also describes how a fishing moment could have been at that time. This particular print is a post-war reproduction by the Takamizawa Company.
