Designer: Katsushika Hokusai Era: Post-war | Currency: $ / £ / € Price: Description: 36 Views of Mt. Fuji is an extremely well-known series. What started as 36 works later grew to include a total of 46 images, containing some of the most recognizable works Hokusai ever designed. It was published c. 1830–1832. This print shows Isawa, a station town on the Koshu Highway. Mount Fuji is seen from the back side and it rises above a morning mist where the sky is already tinged in pink with the light of dawn, its peak is covered with snow. The water of the Fuefuki River is sparkly white due to the morning light while the town in the foreground is still in semi-darkness, the travelers are getting ready for an early start, some on foot, some on horses. The water is calm and no activity of the boat yet on the river gives the whole scene a sensation of serenity. This particular print is a post-war reproduction by Takamizawa company. There are a few slight foxing spots and slight creases above Mount Fuji. Browse thumbnail pages of various selections from the catalogue ...
