Designer: Katsushika Hokusai Era: Post-war | Currency: $ / £ / € Price: ¥ 9,000$ 73.00£ 56.00€ 66.25 Description: 36 Views of Mt. Fuji is an extremely well-known series. What started as 36 works later grew to include a total of 46 images, containing some of the most recognizable works Hokusai ever designed. It was published c. 1830–1832. Even though it was known that Meguro offered a nice view of Mount Fuji, the daily labor of the figures in this scene seems to take over the observation of the mountain which is just glimpsed low between the hills at each side of the composition. No one is interested in stopping their tasks for a while to have a calm and still moment of the view. The farmhouses with their straw roof, the piles of dried rice straw beside them, and the grassy green hills and the constant movement of the figures add texture and rhythm to the whole landscape which portrays the liveliness of the everyday life among common inhabitants. This particular print is a post-war reproduction by Takamizawa company. It is slightly toned overall and has a few slight small foxing spots in the upper area. Also, there is a small chiri (mulberry bark scraps) at the center of this print. Browse thumbnail pages of various selections from the catalogue ...
