Designer: Katsushika Hokusai Era: Post-war | Currency: $ / £ / € Price: Description: 36 Views of Mt. Fuji is an extremely well-known series. What started as 36 works later grew to include a total of 46 images, containing some of the most recognizable works Hokusai ever designed. It was published c. 1830–1832. The print depicts a view of Mount Fuji from Inume Pass in Yamanashi Prefecture. Mount Fuji is visible in the background with its peak capped with snow, and a charming gradation from brown to blue reveals the possible temperature on each stage of the mountain. The steep hill of the Inume Pass in the foreground shows two travelers walking up its green grassy steep road, while at the bottom of the hill, two other travelers leading two horses are just starting their climbing journey. The scenery around lets us guess that the view from the top of the passes was worth the effort. A big tree in the middle divides the composition, and the color palette that uses only tones of greens, indigos, whites, browns, and yellows gives the design a charming balance of harmony. This particular print is a post-war reproduction by Takamizawa company. There is a small green mark at the lower left edge of this print.
