Description: Eisui is one of the pupils of Eishi, most active in the Kansei era (1789-1801). His style is however more similar to Utamaro, when we look at the oval shape of the face of the courtesan.

This print is from one of his most famous series, 'Hana no Utena' (Bases of Flowers). A courtesan from Matsubaya is playing a small drum. The dynamic hair ornaments, the gorgeous kimono, and the delicate composition of her hands bring liveliness to the print.

This particular print is a reproduction by the Adachi Company.
