Item from the Mokuhankan Flea MarketCourtesan Takigawa of OgiyaSize: 39.5cm by 26.5cm (15.55 in by 10.43 in) | Enlargement | Shipping Code: [L] ? Designer: Kitagawa Utamaro Era: Mid Showa | Currency: $ / £ / € Price: Description: From the series "Seven courtesans of the new Yoshiwara" this design is of Takigawa, who also appeared in others of Utamaro's portraits. Here Takigawa is depicted just after finishing a bath, her usually well manicured hair is gently tumbling out of her hairpins as she dries herself with her bath kimono. A real charm point of this design is the juxtaposition between the delicate lines of her features and the bold lines of the kimono, although the thickness of the strokes may differ the carver has taken the same amount of care with each line. This print is a post-war reproduction by the Adachi Company. Browse thumbnail pages of various selections from the catalogue ...
