Description: A beautiful image from Hiroshige's classic series of Famous Places in Kyoto (Kyoto Meisho).

The evening has arrived along the Tadasu River and some travelers are running under heavy rain looking for shelter. They are covering themselves with umbrellas and straw capes (minos) to be protected from the water. It is interesting how the rain is represented with thick sloping lines revealing Hiroshige’s skill in interpreting nature and expressing the different seasons and the weather.

This particular print is a post-war reproduction by Yuyudo.

Note: the size of this print is slightly smaller than the original. Please refer to the displayed measurements for accuracy.

There is slight foxing at the top margin.
