Description: From the series "One Hundred Famous Views of Edo (1856-1858) which actually contains 118 total prints, in full vertical format of classic Hiroshige landscapes.

Yoshiwara was the center of nightlife in the Edo period. The gate to enter this red-light district was closed at night, so if one missed the closing time around midnight, they were forced to stay inside until the gate opened again around five in the morning. This print depicts one such morning in the springtime.

This is a post-war reproduction from the Yamada Shoin Company.
