It is early spring at Oji Inari Shrine, we can notice this by looking at the peeping plum blossoms from behind the teahouses below. The sun is rising and a smooth warm light is showing behind the mountains. This shrine is the devotional site of Inari, the god of the harvest and it was considered the most important among all Kanto shrines to Inari. Each year in the early spring, villagers gathered there to pay their respects and pray for a good year as the procession of people depicted here shows.
