Description: This image is from the massive series "Edo Meisho Hyakkei" (100 Views of Famous Places in Edo) created by Hiroshige. The location depicted is the 'Ouma-yagashi' ferry landing on the west bank of the Sumida River.

Ukiyo-e researchers tell us that the two women we see at the front of the boat are 'ladies of the night' ... of a type known as 'Yotaka' (night hawks).

There are slight foxing spots on the margins.
