Item from the Mokuhankan Flea MarketA Street MusicianSize: 40.0cm by 27.0cm (15.75 in by 10.63 in) | Enlargement | Shipping Code: [L] ? Designer: Utagawa Kunisada Era: Mid Showa | Currency: $ / £ / € Price: Description: This print is from the series “Thoughts Reflected in a Mirror”. It depicts a more rare subject than usual as it depicts a young woman musician rather than a courtesan from a household. It seems that she was walking but suddenly had to stop in order to fix the cords of her shamisen (cord instrument) which seemed to have gotten loose. The print shows the exact moment when she is tightening them back again, her body is tense and crunched, she is biting a red string, and the body of the instrument is on top of her feet. It is fascinating how the tips of her toes are curled up, this gesture along with the others gives the whole design a lot of expression and dynamism. In the upper inset, there is a servant washing the feet of a beauty. This particular print is a post-war reproduction by Yuyudo. There is a small spot near the signature.
