Item from the Mokuhankan Flea MarketWeavingSize: 27.0cm by 38.5cm (10.63 in by 15.16 in) | Enlargement | Shipping Code: [L] ? Designer: Katsushika Hokusai Era: Post-war | Currency: $ / £ / € Price: Description: The original print is considered a surimono, a genre of Japanese woodblock print. Surimono prints were privately published and used for special occasions, unlike more famous ukiyo-e prints. They often contained images and poetry, so it was probably accompanied by another sheet with some texts printed on it. This particular print depicts a woman working at a loom under a pine tree, assisted by two other women. The woman operating the warps only exposes a small part of her white forehead, giving the impression of her face appearing through a curtain of threads. This is a post-war reproduction, from the Adachi company. There is a small spot at the upper left part of this print. Browse thumbnail pages of various selections from the catalogue ...
