Description: This is a late example of Hokusai’s work under the name of Shunro. The two prints depict two famous actors playing kabuki characters against a stone wall in the background.

The two roles of Chobei (left), played by Koshiro with his sturdy dignity, and Gonpachi (right), played by Kokazo with his youthful appeal, are beautifully contrasted through the use of two vertical compositions.

This is a post-war reproduction, from the Adachi company.
