Description: This print illustrates a woman just caught in the middle of a sudden evening heavy rain, we can tell it took her by surprise because she even dropped a clog when she was hurrying to take in her laundry.

It is interesting how Harunobu illustrates the heavy rain through oblique symmetrical lines and even though we can’t see the wind, we can figure out its strength by observing the left direction that the rain, the laundry, and the girl’s kimono are taking in order to give a big impression of movement.

Another interesting detail is the letters hidden among the patterns of the girl’s obi that indicate the year when this print was made.

A post-war reproduction by Takamizawa Company.

This print is slightly toned and has slight creases. Also, there is a slight foxing spot at the upper part and a small chiri (mulberry bark scraps) at the left margin of this print.
