Item from the Mokuhankan Flea MarketPlum Blossoms at NightSize: 32.5cm by 22.5cm (12.80 in by 8.86 in) | Enlargement | Shipping Code: [L] ? Designer: Suzuki Harunobu Era: Pre-war | Currency: $ / £ / € Price: Description: A young woman standing on a bridge gazes whimsically up at plum blossoms illuminated by lantern light. A pitch black background is uncommon in ukiyo-e, and really gives the impression of the girl, bridge, and blossoms being lit up by the lantern in this print. Very light bokashi gradation can be seen at the edges of the woman's kimono, although this is probably simply used to mimic the fading visible in older prints from prolonged exposure to light. Karazuri blind-embossing has been used on the inner layers of the woman's kimono, tabi socks, and collar. The print is a chuban, an ukiyoe-e print that is about half the size of an oban print.
