Description: This is from the series 'Masterpieces of Japanese ink painting' (日本水墨画名品集) published by Tanseisha in Kyoto probably in the 1970s or 1980s. The original ink brush paintings, which express the depth of nature in a world of limited ink colors, were turned into woodblock prints through many dozens of impressions by master printers.

Shubun was the director of the court painting bureau, and as such, used his influence to promote ink painting to the status of the official painting style. In this design, we can appreciate how the brushstrokes were translated into carving traces and then having the same result of energetic yet precise and soft lines.

A traditional house stands between some pine trees next to the shore of a rocky mountain. On the right part, there is only a single boat floating on the river, with an empty space separating them from the rocky mountains in the background making the whole landscape breathe and giving the sensation of space and big distances.

Note: it may be hard to tell from the web page, but this print is quite large - almost double the typical o-ban size. Please check the dimensions indicated.

There are a few slight creases at the right margin of this print. Also, there are a few traces of glue removal on the backside.
