Item from the Mokuhankan Flea MarketLong Scroll of LandscapesSize: 42.0cm by 58.0cm (16.54 in by 22.83 in) | Enlargement | Shipping Code: [XL] ? Designer: Sesshu Era: Post-war | Currency: $ / £ / € Price: Description: This is one of the "Selected Masterpieces of Japanese Ink Brush Painting" (日本水墨画名作撰) published by Tanseisha probably in the 1970s or 1980s. The original ink brush paintings, which express the depth of nature in a world of limited ink colors, were turned into woodblock prints with 85 to 90 impressions by master printers using antique Nara ink (black, blue, and brown). Two leaning trees on a rock are featuring the foreground, but the real subject is the pagoda standing in the background. We can notice how amazing the details of the landscape are given through the lines of the design and even if the chrome palette is almost absent or very sober (some grays, greens, blacks) the sense of depth is given by the contrast of the light colors against the dark ones. Note: it may be hard to tell from the web page, but this print is large - almost double the O-ban size. Please check the dimension indicated at the top. Upper right corner slightly creased.
