Designer: Tenyu Shokei Era: Post-war | Currency: $ / £ / € Price: ¥ 15,000$ 120.00£ 89.75€ 105.00 Description: This is one of the "Selected Masterpieces of Japanese Ink Brush Painting" (日本水墨画名作撰) published by Tanseisha probably in the 1970s or 1980s. The original ink brush paintings, which express the depth of nature in a world of limited ink colors, were turned into woodblock prints with 85 to 90 impressions by master printers using antique Nara ink (black, blue, and brown). Kanzan, the Zen poet, and Jittoku, a kitchen worker, are always painted as a pair, they are representative of deeper meanings in Zen Buddhism as a whole. Almost always depicted wearing scrappy clothing, disheveled, and laughing. It’s interesting how the designer succeeded to suggest depth in their clothes with only some simple lines; their facial expression though, presents more details to obtain that mischievous look. Note: it may be hard to tell from the web page, but this print is large - almost double the O-ban size. Please check the dimension indicated at the top. There are slight creases on the upper corners.
