Description: This pair of large-format prints are woodblock reproductions of a screen painting from the early 1700s.

The original painting is known as 紙本金地著色風神雷神図 (Gods of Wind and Thunder), and depicts two gods from Shinto and Japanese mythology: Raijin, the god of lightning thunder and storms, and Fūjin, the god of wind.

They make quite a spectacular pair, and we can't imagine any circumstances that would allow such a project to proceed these days. Neither the wood, the paper, or craftsmen with the requisite experience to do this work exists anymore ...

(Note that the discoloration in the white and the mottling of the green are intentional; the intent of the publisher was to create the antique effect of the painting that they were reproducing ...)
