Description: This print is a woodblock reproduction of a screen painting from the early 1700s. It was made by the Tansei-sha company (from Kyoto) in the early 1980s, as part of a set of reproductions of classical paintings.

This was the 'bubble era' in Japan, when the streets were awash in cash. Projects that would - in more sensible times - have been not financially viable, were able to attract enough buyers to move forward, and Tansei-sha made the most of this opportunity. (As did the Momose Company, which made a large number of reproductions of paintings in the same period.)

This print depicts three wild geese near a lake. Two of them are standing near the shore, while the third one is flying around and seems to be getting ready to land soon as it is comunicating with the other one on the ground. The colors here employed are very sober as they are reduced to tones of grays and blacks but highlighted by the yellow one that is used to accentuate some parts of the land.

Even though the lines of the composition as well as the palette are very simple, they surely add a big note of elegance to the whole landscape design.
