Designer: Tawaraya Sotatsu Era: Late Showa | Currency: $ / £ / € Price: Description: From the set of 15, 狩野派琳派巨匠撰 (Kano/Rinpa School Master's Selection), published by Tanseisha probably in the 1980s or 1990s. The original of this print was copied by Tawaraya Sotatsu in 1630 from an emaki (picture scroll) depicting a monk/poet in the 12th century, Saigyo Hōshi's life activities. The scroll containing this image was the main subject for Sotatsu's various paintings, and although this print is only a portion of the original, the deer's ecology is well captured in the light, witty brushwork.
