In the middle of a snowy night, Chikako is jumping into the Asano river committing suicide as a consequence of her desperation due to the imprisonment of her beloved father. Even though it depicts a tragic moment, and we can feel this through the body’s position and the facial gesture; the color palette, the details of the lines used to draw the birds and the floating obi, the contrast of the different patterns of the woman’s clothes against the white of the rest of the scene, gives the whole atmosphere a touch of joy and beauty. This print is backed (pasted on a mat board) and has toning and creases. But they are in good condition overall for their age remaining nice color.
