Designer: Tsukioka Yoshitoshi Era: Meiji | Currency: $ / £ / € Price: Description: This is from Yoshitoshi's popular series 'One Hundred Aspects of the Moon', a series of 100 large nishiki-e prints, all of which were based on moon-related scenes from Japanese and Chinese stories, poems, and songs, and which took eight years to complete (1885-1892). Akazome Emon, a famous poet of the Heian period is depicted here at her doorstep waiting for her lover. She waited all night longing to see him, to no avail. Her poem in the upper right corner demonstrates that her serenity was lost: “I wish I had gone to bed immediately - but now the night has passed and I watch the moon descend.” This print is backed, has toning, and has creases on the right corners. But they are in good condition overall for their age remaining nice color. Browse thumbnail pages of various selections from the catalogue ...
