Designer: Ando Hiroshige Era: Post-war | Currency: $ / £ / € Price:  Description: From the series "One Hundred Famous Views of Edo (1856-1858) which actually contains 118 total prints, in full vertical format of classic Hiroshige landscapes. This print shows an autumn scenery of freshly dyed cotton strips, drying above the dyer’s shop in Kanda, Tokyo. This area was famous for its many fabric shops and even today, some fabric companies are still located in Kanda. Among the different patterns on the fabric, are the ‘fish’ kanji that represent the publisher ‘Uoei’ in the foreground, and Hiroshige’s mark on the strips behind those. Hiroshige has not only placed his name behind the designer’s on purpose, but his name also only appears once in this entire series. In between the waving fabric, you can catch a glimpse of Edo with Mount Fuji in the background. The red sunset in the distance draws attention away from the dominant blue and purple color tones. This is a post-war reproduction from the Yamada Shoin Company. There is a small chiri (mulberry bark scraps) in the upper middle area of this print.
