Description: From the series "One Hundred Famous Views of Edo (1856-1858) which actually contains 118 total prints, in full vertical format of classic Hiroshige landscapes.

Three immense carp banners are floating over the Kanda River, the scene extends from Surugadai on the left through Bancho in the distance. A samurai procession passes over the Suido Bridge in the lower right. We can perceive Mount Fuji in the background.

This view celebrates the Boy's Festival, which takes place on the 5th day of the 5th month. The banners drew on a Chinese legend of a fish so strong that it could leap a waterfall—an image considered appropriate for young boys. The enormous carp in the foreground surely takes our attention especially the details of its scales!

This particular print is a post-war reproduction from the Yamada Shoin Company.
