Item from the Mokuhankan Flea MarketMelon and the RatsSize: 30.5cm by 19.5cm (12.01 in by 7.68 in) | Enlargement | Shipping Code: [L] ? Designer: Sen Shunkyo Era: Taisho | Currency: $ / £ / € Price: Description: This print is from the series, 日本木版画粋 (Masterpieces of Japanese Woodblock Prints), a collection of reproductions of various themes and designs published around 1924. The print quality is excellent (for most of the prints) and there are almost no traces of baren on the back, so we assume that it was at least partially machine printed. Sen Shunkyo, or Ts'ien Shun-chu mainly studied portraits, flowers and birds and was known for his characteristic painting style. This print of four rats eating a melon was meant to represent something quite simple and refreshing. The rather gloomy and almost sinister design, makes this a very unique print.
