Designer: Ando Hiroshige Era: Post-war | Currency: $ / £ / € Price: Description: This print is from a set of reproductions of 25 of Hiroshige's lesser-known prints, given the English title "Rare Publication: Selected Works by Hiroshige" by the publisher, O-Edo Mokuhansha. A white dragon emerges from black clouds in this dramatic illustration by Hiroshige. The illustration is in a Chinese style, with few colours used and areas carved to mimic brushstrokes. While the black flecks of ink scattered across the canvas appear to have been applied with a flick of a brush, comparison with earlier prints shows that they have been carefully carved and woodblock-printed to resemble Hiroshige's illustration as closely as possible. The white area which makes up the dragon's face is one of the only sections not printed. The original ōtanzaku (large tanzaku print) was produced in the 1830s by Sanoya Kihei (Kikakudō). This print has slight creases at the lower right edge. Browse thumbnail pages of various selections from the catalogue ...
