Description: Published by Adachi in 1955, this set of 25 prints covers the history of Ukiyo-e in stages. Beginning with a sumizuri-e (the early-stage works printed in a single color with India ink) by Hishikawa Shigenobu, the set features nicely made reproductions of actual woodblock prints, showing the development of the numbers of colors and techniques gradually increased from tan-e, beni-e, through benizuri-e, and finally, nishiki-e (multi-colour woodblock print).

In addition to the editor's explanation of "The History of Ukiyo-e," each print is accompanied by descriptions in English and Japanese, making this set a valuable resource.

The displayed dimension is the outer case size. The print size differs from the smallest 19.5 x 27.5 cm to the largest 71 x 26 cm.


Most of the prints are lightly glued to the mat folder. And as for two loose prints, we matted them using our usual acid-free paper.

The three large-size prints are folded to fit in the case.

Some of the prints have small slight foxing spots, slight creases, and small chiri (mulberry bark scraps). but the overall condition is unbelievably good considering its age - it's published in 1955!
