Designer: Toshusai Sharaku Era: Pre-war | Currency: $ / £ / € Price: Description: This print is included in a set of 50 prints called "Ukiyo Ekagami," a collection of various artists and genres, which was probably a reproduction in the pre-war period. This bust portrait depicts the kabuki actor Sakata Sangoro III as Fujikawa Mizuemon, the villain of the kabuki play “Hana Ayame Bunroku Soga”. Sharaku focuses on the facial gesture: he is scowling while pressing his lips, eyes wide, his neck and shoulders are tensed, and his arms folded up into the sleeves of his gray kimono in order to show his emotions at their peak. Even though the color scheme uses muted tones, the black of the collar and hair give an interesting contrast against the gray background. This print has slight foxing.
