Item from the Mokuhankan Flea MarketTwo Beauties Under the Same UmbrellaSize: 39.5cm by 27.0cm (15.55 in by 10.63 in) | Enlargement | Shipping Code: [L] ? Designer: Kitagawa Utamaro Era: Pre-war | Currency: $ / £ / € Price: Description: This print is included in a set of 50 prints called "Ukiyo Ekagami," a collection of various artists and genres, which was probably a reproduction in the pre-war period. In this print, Utamaro depicts two beauties (probably courtesans) who are holding together the handle of an umbrella. The one in the front, dressed in a red kimono and carrying a handkerchief inside it, is also holding a fan and turning her head to the right as if something or someone had caught her attention, while her friend behind her is in a more meditative mood, with her head looking down and delicately holding part of her kimono in her other hand. Utamaro chose to show their close portraits, in this way we can really appreciate some small details like their beautiful hair accessories and the small white bird that seems to be part of a painted decoration on the reverse of the umbrella. There are slight creases on this print. Also, there are a few traces of glue removal on the backside. Browse thumbnail pages of various selections from the catalogue ...
