Description: From Hiroshige's "Famous Views of the Eastern Capital" series. It depicts a winter landscape where some travelers are crossing the Nihon bridge. In the background, some snowy rooftops next to a shore and the pagodas of a temple complete the scene. Far behind, Mount Fuji rises under a bright sunrise.

The deep blue bokashi gradation used at the bottom of the design, and the orange-yellow one used for the sky are the highlights of the print.

The format of the print is called tanzaku-ban, and was very popular during the Edo era. This particular dimension made perfect use of a single sheet of washi being cut into four strips vertically. Many of the prints were actually made 'two-up' and then cut apart for sale later.

Most of the time, Hiroshige used this format for nature kacho-e genre (birds/flowers), but he did still produce some landscapes using it.

This version is a post-war reproduction by the Takamizawa Company.

There are some slight foxing spots in the upper area of this print.
